The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Japanese serow (Capricornis crispus) is endemic to Japan’s mountain forests, occurring on Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu.
It eats leaves, young shoots and fruit, feeding in forest vegetation on steep slopes and in scrub.
Usually alone or paired, it maintains a small territory. Scent marks help define occupied areas and reduce frequent direct encounters. Agility on uneven ground allows access to sheltered resting sites. Japan protects the species as a special natural monument.
