Indian cobra — size comparison — facts and sources

The Indian cobra (Naja naja) is a venomous snake of the Indian subcontinent. It inhabits open forests, fields and areas around buildings. The back of the hood often bears a spectacle-like pattern, although prominence varies. Outside defensive displays, the neck remains narrow and movement stays low to the ground.

It subdues prey with venom and swallows it whole. When disturbed it may raise its forebody and expand the characteristic hood. It eats rodents, lizards and frogs.

Females lay eggs in sheltered places.
