The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The house mouse uses proximity to people, finding shelter in farm buildings and warehouses. It also lives in fields and scrub. Some animals move in autumn to warmer places where food is easier to find during colder months.
It eats seeds and various plant parts, supplementing its diet with available animal food. It squeezes through small gaps and climbs well. It builds nests from soft, shredded materials. Smell, hearing and whisker touch matter in dark passages.
Under favourable conditions females may rear several litters annually. Newborns are helpless and depend on nest warmth and maternal milk. Scents help recognise individuals and organise social contacts. Laboratory and captive-bred forms descend from this species but may differ greatly in colour.
