The greater hog badger (Arctonyx collaris) is a mustelid of forested South and Southeast Asia. It inhabits tropical, subtropical and mountain forests. It has a stocky build, a pale face with dark stripes and an elongated, mobile snout distinguishing it from many other badgers.
It searches the forest floor for invertebrates and other small animals. Plant food, including fruit, supplements its diet. Powerful limbs and claws help dig into soil and use food hidden in litter.
It usually lives alone and is active mainly at night. It often spends the day in a burrow, crevice or other natural retreat. Feeding signs may be easier to find than the animal itself.
Długi ryj i mocne pazury pomagają mu rozgrzebywać ściółkę oraz glebę w poszukiwaniu pokarmu. Lasy tropikalne, subtropikalne i górskie.
