Highland is a Scottish cattle breed with long, coarse hair, a thick fringe and wide-spreading horns. Its compact build and double coat suit a cool, wet climate. Red is particularly recognisable, although the breed also comes in other colours.
These cattle graze pastures and can also make use of more fibrous vegetation. They are a domestic cattle breed rather than a separate wild species. The cow shown uses 112.5 cm at the withers, the midpoint of the published female range; the larger bulls need separate consideration.
