Grey rhebok — size comparison — facts and sources

The grey rhebok is associated with mountain landscapes of southern Africa. It uses rocky slopes, plateaus and scrub and in quiet places also descends into grassy valleys. Uneven terrain provides protection from threats. A group may retreat onto less accessible ground after a warning call from one individual.

Leaves of broad-leaved plants play a major dietary role, especially in winter. It alternates feeding with rest and uses shade in midday heat. Diet composition changes with season and plant availability.

A male may accompany a group of females and defend access to them. Other males may be solitary. Competition can be intense during breeding. The young initially hide among rocks or shrubs, so they need not constantly follow their moving mothers.
