Greenland shark — size comparison — facts and sources

The Greenland shark lives in cold Arctic and North Atlantic waters. It has a substantial body, short snout and small fins. It often remains deep and moves more slowly than many active open-ocean sharks.

It eats fish, squid, marine mammals and carrion. Large-animal remains in a stomach do not establish whether the animal was hunted or scavenged. Eye-lens studies indicate that Greenland sharks may live for several centuries. Very slow growth and late maturity accompany this longevity.
