Green sea turtle — size comparison — facts and sources

The green sea turtle inhabits tropical and subtropical oceans. Adults often feed in shallow coastal water, on seagrass meadows and in areas rich in algae. A streamlined shell and flipper-shaped limbs support efficient swimming.

Plant food predominates in adult diets, while younger turtles also eat animals. They regularly surface to breathe. Migrations between feeding and breeding areas can cover long distances, connecting different marine habitats.

Females come onto sandy beaches and bury eggs in nests. After hatching, the young head towards the sea and begin independent lives.
