Green sawfish — size comparison — facts and sources

The green sawfish is a large ray with an elongated body and a toothed saw extending from its snout. It inhabits shallow Indo-Pacific bays, estuaries and muddy coasts. The saw accounts for a substantial part of total length and remains conspicuous even when the rest blends into the bottom.

It feeds on fish, shrimps and crabs. The elongated snout helps locate and capture prey in murky water. The same structure readily becomes entangled in nets; incidental capture is a major cause of population loss.
