The green anole (Anolis carolinensis) is a small tree-dwelling lizard of the south-eastern United States. It uses trees, shrubs and forest-edge vegetation. A slender body and long tail aid balance on plants.

Skin colour may change between green and brown. Males display pink dewlaps during territorial encounters and courtship. Adhesive toe pads aid movement over leaves and thin branches.

It eats insects and spiders. A female lays single eggs at successive intervals.
