The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The green anaconda is a semiaquatic constrictor of tropical South America. It inhabits swamps, flooded areas and slow rivers, where water supports its heavy body. An olive background with dark spots provides camouflage among vegetation and shaded banks.
It ambushes fish, birds and other vertebrates. Large individuals can also take capybaras and caimans. Prey is subdued with body coils and swallowed whole.
High-set eyes and nostrils help it watch while submerged. It moves more efficiently in water than on dry ground. Females give birth to live young that function independently from the start. Females are much larger and heavier than males. Seasonal water levels affect access to shelter and concentrations of prey.
