Greater white-toothed shrew — size comparison — facts and sources

The greater white-toothed shrew occurs in southwestern Europe and North Africa. It chooses insect-rich places, from meadows and thickets to gardens and farmland, often with fairly dry ground.

It eats mainly invertebrates. It makes retreats beneath stones and wood or in abandoned burrows. During colder periods it can reduce energy expenditure by lowering its activity and body temperature.

It is more sociable than many other shrews. Individuals may rest in shared nests, and pairs may defend an area together. The young remain under their mother's care before beginning independent lives.
