Greater grison — size comparison — facts and sources
The greater grison occurs in Central and South America. It uses forests, scrub, wetlands and areas near streams and may also visit farmland. Ground-level cover aids movement, prey searching and finding resting sites between feeding trips.
It is a predator hunting small mammals and other vertebrates. Recorded prey includes opossums, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Food depends on local animal availability. Agility, smell and the ability to enter retreats aid hunting in dense vegetation and uneven terrain.
Solitary individuals and pairs are observed. Gland scents play important communication and defensive roles. The female cares for young, which gradually begin eating meat. Some behaviours of this secretive predator remain poorly known.
