Great barracuda — size comparison — facts and sources
The great barracuda has a long, silvery body and a large mouth with sharp teeth. It lives in tropical and subtropical seas. Young use shallow bays and mangroves, while adults occur near reefs and in more open water.
It often hovers almost motionless while watching. After detecting prey it accelerates abruptly and catches a fish. Teeth include smaller gripping teeth and large daggerlike ones. Adults may be solitary or form loose gatherings.
