The eastern lowland gorilla, or Grauer’s gorilla, is an eastern gorilla subspecies from the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It inhabits tropical lowland and mountain forests over a wide altitude range. Mature males have substantial bodies and silver-grey back saddles.
It chiefly eats leaves, stems, fruit and bark. On the ground it usually moves on all fours, supporting itself on the knuckles. Family groups are usually led by an adult male.
