False map turtle — size comparison — facts and sources

The false map turtle (Graptemys pseudogeographica) is a river turtle of the Mississippi basin. It inhabits rivers and larger waters with basking sites.

It may spend much of the day on logs, stones and other supports near water. When disturbed it dives quickly, and others may follow.

It eats aquatic insects, molluscs, carrion and plants. Females and males differ in size, affecting accessible food. Females bury eggs in nests on land.
