Golden bamboo lemur — size comparison — facts and sources
The golden bamboo lemur has a rounded head, a short muzzle and small ears partly hidden in its fur. Its back is reddish brown, while the cheeks, throat and underparts are distinctly paler and golden. Males and females look similar.
It lives in wet forests of southeastern Madagascar. Its food is closely associated with bamboo: it eats young shoots, leaf bases and other tender plant parts. It lives in small groups and often rests holding its body vertically.
Forest loss and the disappearance of suitable bamboo stands restrict available habitat. Preserving trees alone, without its food plants, is insufficient to protect this specialised lemur.
