Giant trevally — size comparison — facts and sources

The giant trevally is a large, powerfully built Indo-Pacific fish found at reefs, lagoons and oceanic islands. Older individuals may be dark graphite in colour. A deeply forked tail powers abrupt pursuit.

It hunts fish, crustaceans and cephalopods alone or in small groups. At certain Indian Ocean islands trevallies have been observed catching birds from the surface and even leaping towards low-flying birds. This unusual behaviour is documented at particular sites; aquatic prey remains the species' dietary mainstay.
