Giant sea bass — size comparison — facts and sources
The giant sea bass inhabits coastal California and northwestern Mexico. Its massive body and enormous mouth are conspicuous over rocky reefs and in kelp forests. Adults reach impressive sizes but grow slowly and mature late.
It eats fish, squid and crustaceans. Longevity allows individuals to use coastal habitats for many years. Intensive fishing severely depleted populations, and a slow life cycle makes recovery a lengthy process.
