Giant moray — size comparison — facts and sources

The giant moray inhabits Indo-Pacific reefs. Its elongated body fits between rocks and corals, often leaving only the head exposed. Regular mouth opening helps pass water through the gills.

It mostly hunts fish, octopuses and crustaceans at night. Additional jaws in the throat can move captured prey towards the oesophagus. It often spends daylight in a crevice, searching the surrounding reef after dark. It is usually encountered alone.
