Giant armadillo — size comparison — facts and sources
The giant armadillo inhabits tropical forests, cerrado, savannas and wetlands in South America. Bony armour with a pale border covers its dark body. It has exceptionally numerous teeth, potentially around a hundred.
Active at night and usually solitary, it feeds chiefly on termites and ants, excavating their nests with powerful forefeet. The particularly enlarged third claw also helps dig deep burrows used for shelter.
