Gervais’ beaked whale — size comparison — facts and sources

Gervais’ beaked whale inhabits deep, warm and temperate Atlantic waters. Its elongated beak and streamlined body resemble other Mesoplodon species. Much distribution information comes from stranded specimens, especially in the western Atlantic.

It seeks squid and fish during deep dives. Living animals are rarely observed and usually only briefly. Details of social life are therefore harder to establish than in dolphins regularly seen at the surface.
