The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Indian star tortoise comes from the Indian subcontinent and Sri Lanka. Yellow lines radiating from individual scutes decorate its dark domed shell. The star-shaped pattern breaks up its outline among grasses and patches of light.
It inhabits grassland, scrub and seasonally changing forests. Chiefly herbivorous, it eats grasses, leaves, flowers and fruit. During intense heat it uses shade; activity relates to temperature and moisture.
Females are usually larger and lay eggs in soil. Both sexes carry the striking shell pattern, although line arrangement and thickness vary.
