The Formosan serow occurs in Taiwan, using mountain forests and steep slopes. Rocks and dense vegetation provide cover close to feeding areas. Its location depends on local terrain, vegetation and human presence.
It eats leaves, young shoots and grasses. Daily movements combine feeding with resting in sheltered areas and on difficult-to-access slopes.
It is usually solitary, and relationships with neighbours involve maintaining an area and scent marking. Activity often occurs around dawn and dusk; in more disturbed places it may shift towards nighttime.
