The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Florida softshell turtle (Apalone ferox) inhabits southeastern United States lakes and other freshwater with soft bottoms. A broad, flattened body suits bottom-associated life, and its shell has a flexible margin.
Adult females are considerably larger than males. It may bury itself in sand or mud, remaining inconspicuous. Webbed feet propel swimming, while an elongated snout assists breathing without exposing the whole body.
It eats fish, molluscs, insects and other aquatic animals. Females lay eggs in excavated bankside nests. They may also bask out of water.
Mierzymy odcinek: przedni → tylny brzeg pancerza, po prostej. Środek zakresu długości karapaksu dorosłych samic 28–63 cm, bez głowy i ogona.
