The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The fin whale is among the largest cetaceans, with an exceptionally slender body and a small, curved dorsal fin. It inhabits deep ocean waters and continental shelf margins. Its streamlined shape supports fast, sustained swimming.
It feeds on krill, small fish and squid, filtering food from water through baleen. It lives alone or in small groups, with larger gatherings where prey is abundant. Movement between feeding grounds makes its presence in an area change seasonally.
