Eurasian lynx — size comparison — facts and sources
The Eurasian lynx, Lynx lynx, is a forest cat of Europe and Asia. Ear tufts, a short black-tipped tail and broad paws give it a distinctive outline.
It mainly hunts by ambush, using trees and uneven ground for cover while approaching mammals such as roe deer and hares. Broad, fur-covered paws help it travel over snow in winter. Prey availability influences range size.
Adults are elusive and usually solitary. Females raise young without sustained male involvement, and growing offspring eventually leave the maternal range. Connected forests facilitate these movements; roads and fragmented habitats can hinder contact between populations and the occupation of new territories.
