The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The eastern falanouc inhabits wet lowland forests of eastern Madagascar. It has a narrow, elongated snout, brown fur and a thick tail. The older source also discusses populations now separated as the western falanouc.
It feeds mainly at night, searching litter for soft-bodied invertebrates. Claws help rake the substrate, while its elongated snout reaches small prey. By day it rests in sheltered places, including beneath logs and in crevices. It stores fat reserves in its tail. Its teeth differ from typical carnivore dentition, being adapted to small, soft prey.
