The emperor tamarin is a small arboreal monkey of western Amazonia. It uses branches and vines in tropical forests, moving between resting sites and scattered food sources. Long, white moustaches distinguish it.
Its diet includes fruit, insects and other small animals. Feeding across vegetation layers uses seasonally available food. A long tail assists balance but does not grasp as spider monkeys’ tails do.
Tamarins live in groups and jointly care for young. Calls and scent maintain contact.
