The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The eastern kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula) is an eastern US constrictor that also hunts other snakes. It inhabits forests, clearings and wetland margins. Pale cross-markings interrupt its dark body and vary in arrangement.
It subdues prey in body coils and may hunt venomous snakes. Much time is spent under litter, wood and other cover. In cooler conditions it emerges to bask.
It winters in underground or rocky refuges. Other snakes, small vertebrates and eggs provide food. Competing males entwine their forebodies and try to press each other down. Historical kingsnake descriptions also included forms now assigned to separate species.
