Common blue-tongued skink — size comparison — facts and sources
The common blue-tongued skink (Tiliqua scincoides) is a terrestrial lizard of eastern Australia. It inhabits open scrub, grasslands and gardens with cover. Smooth scales cover an elongated body held close to the ground by short limbs.
It basks in morning sun before seeking food. Dense grass, logs and other low cover shelter it from danger.
It eats snails, beetles, fruit and plants. When threatened it displays a broad blue tongue and may hiss. The female gives birth to live young that soon begin independent lives.
