The dyeing poison frog (Dendrobates tinctorius) is a small amphibian of the Guianas’ forests with many natural colour forms. It inhabits humid forest patches.
It is active by day and may defend a small territory. Warning colours are associated with toxic skin secretions.
It eats small insects and other arthropods. Eggs are laid on land. An adult carries hatched tadpoles to small water bodies, where they complete aquatic development.
