Cuvier’s dwarf caiman (Paleosuchus palpebrosus) is a small caiman of South American forest streams. It inhabits forest streams, rivers and flooded savannas. Compared with large caimans, its body is more compact and bony skin plates form especially pronounced armour.
It also uses cooler, fast-flowing waters. Activity often occurs at night. It eats invertebrates, fish and small vertebrates.
Eggs develop in a nest of plant material. The female may remain near the hatching young.
