The dusky shark inhabits tropical and temperate continental shelves. It moves between coastal waters and more open sea areas. It has the typical streamlined outline of a large requiem shark.
It hunts fish, other sharks, rays and cephalopods. It grows slowly, matures late and produces relatively few young. Intensive fishing and bycatch can therefore cause declines that new generations cannot quickly offset.
