Deer mouse — size comparison — facts and sources

The deer mouse is associated with varied North American habitats, from forests to meadows and fields.

It feeds chiefly at night on seeds, fruit, nuts and invertebrates, storing food in colder climates. It can climb, nesting near the ground as well as in wood and tree cavities.

In winter several individuals may rest together, reducing heat loss. It is important prey for owls, snakes and predatory mammals and contributes to seed movement.
