The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The common pipistrelle is a European bat often associated with inhabited areas. It has a dark face, brown fur and small ears. Its roosts may lie in building crevices, where it remains hidden during daytime rest.
In the evening it leaves its retreat and begins foraging around woodland, gardens and other insect-rich places. It catches small insects in flight. Echolocation allows navigation and prey detection even in dim light.
Females form maternity colonies, and young are initially dependent on their mothers. It resembles other pipistrelles, so a brief view does not always permit reliable identification. Echolocation information helps distinguish similar species.
Środek zakresu 35–45 mm długości głowy i tułowia · Bat Conservation Trust.
