Common marmoset — size comparison — facts and sources

The common marmoset, also known as the white-tufted marmoset, originates in northeastern Brazil. It uses forests, wooded savannas and some gardens and parks. Introduced populations have extended its presence beyond its original area.

It gouges bark to stimulate the flow of plant exudates, an important dietary component. It also eats fruit and small animals. Claw-like nails help it grip trunks and slender branches while feeding.

It lives in family groups. The mother, father and other group members share care of the young; older siblings may help carry and feed younger ones.
