The common frog (Rana temporaria) is an amphibian of moist European and Asian habitats. It uses damp meadows, forests, gardens and breeding pools.

Long hind limbs enable both jumping on land and efficient movement in water. Outside breeding it may stay far from water. Colour varies greatly, and the dark patch behind the eye remains a useful identification feature.

It eats insects, spiders, snails and earthworms. Its spawn forms compact clusters in shallow water.
