Chimpanzee — size comparison — facts and sources

Chimpanzees inhabit tropical forests, mountain forests and woodland–savanna landscapes in Africa. Dark hair covers the body, while the face, hands and feet remain bare. They walk on their knuckles on the ground and grip branches with long fingers in trees.

Fruit is central to their diet, alongside leaves, seeds, insects and meat. They may prepare sticks to extract termites and use chewed leaves as sponges to collect water. Tool-use traditions differ between communities, and young chimpanzees learn by watching older animals.
