The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The collared peccary uses highly varied environments in the Americas. It inhabits tropical forests, scrub, dry grasslands and semi-desert areas. On hot days it rests in sheltered places, including near rocks and tree bases. Activity rhythms depend on temperature and local habitat.
It is omnivorous, but plant food usually predominates. It eats roots, herbs, fruit, seeds and succulents. In dry regions prickly pears provide food and water. Forest animals' diets may differ greatly from those living at desert edges.
It lives in small, relatively stable herds. Scent and mutual contact aid group-member recognition. Herds may spread out while feeding and come close again at rest. Breeding may occur year-round if local food conditions and female condition permit.
