The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The water opossum has contrasting grey and dark fur patches and webbed hindfeet. A marsupial of Central and South American forest streams and rivers, it swims and dives with its tail as a rudder. Females close their pouches underwater.
It eats aquatic invertebrates, fish and other small animals. Long forefoot digits without extensive webbing grasp prey; the hindfeet provide the main propulsive surface. Dense fur resists soaking. Ashore it uses bankside shelters.
