Roti Island snake-necked turtle — size comparison — facts and sources
The Roti Island snake-necked turtle (Chelodina mccordi) originates from Indonesia’s Roti Island. It inhabits shallow, seasonal freshwater. When disturbed it folds its neck sideways beneath the shell edge rather than pulling it straight inside.
Its long neck rapidly reaches prey. In the dry season it leaves drying waters and shelters beneath rocks or in other damp refuges.
It eats insects, small fish and tadpoles. Usually solitary, it is often active at night. Females lay eggs on land.
Mierzymy odcinek: przedni → tylny brzeg pancerza, po prostej. Przykładowe 18 cm prostej długości karapaksu. Rhodin (1994), tabela 2, podaje samicę AGJR 453 o karapaksie 21,3 cm; 18 cm nie jest średnią ani maksimum gatunku. Wysokość postawy wynika z proporcji ilustracji. Przód jest przybliżoną projekcją. Skalę obu ujęć dopasowano do tego samego pancerza, porównując odległość od szczytu karapaksu do dolnego obrysu plastronu. Głowa, wyciągnięta szyja, nogi i płetwy nie wyznaczają wielkości pancerza.
