The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Chacoan peccary is associated with the hot, dry Gran Chaco landscape. It selects dense thorn scrub with succulents and scattered trees. It moves among plants along established routes.
Cacti are important food. It may turn pieces with its snout, rubbing spines against the ground, and remove some spines with its teeth. It also eats roots, pods and fallen plant parts. Such food allows it to live where fresh grass and water are scarce.
It forms small herds, active especially in the morning. Individuals communicate through calls and gland scents. They use dust baths and shaded resting places. Young can run soon after birth and return to the group with their mothers; birth timing is linked to feeding conditions.
