The Cat Ba langur has a dark body and a contrasting golden-yellow head with projecting hairs. Its long tail helps maintain balance. The Cat Ba and white-headed langurs, formerly grouped together, are treated as separate species.
In the wild it occurs only on Vietnam's Cat Ba Island. Its habitat is a mosaic of forest and steep limestone rocks. It moves deftly along branches and rocky ledges, selecting sheltered places for the night. It feeds mainly on leaves, supplemented by other plant parts.
Living on one island leaves very limited scope to move beyond threats. Protecting remaining groups requires reducing hunting and maintaining quiet, connected habitats.
