The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The pig-nosed turtle occurs in northern Australia and southern New Guinea. Its soft-looking shell surface, flipperlike limbs and small piglike snout are distinctive.
It lives in rivers, lakes and other waters, sometimes near estuaries. Aquatic plants, fallen fruit and varied invertebrates provide food. Powerful forelimbs propel swimming, while elongated nostrils allow breathing at the surface.
Females leave water to bury eggs in bankside substrate. Its two-clawed description refers to the claws on its flipperlike limbs, a characteristic feature.
