The cane toad (Rhinella marina) is a large toad originating in tropical America. It inhabits forests, open ground and areas around buildings. Adults feed chiefly at night, moving over the ground. They also use substantially human-altered landscapes.
Large glands behind the eyes produce a secretion deterring predators. It eats chiefly insects and other available small animals.
It lays spawn in water. Outside its native range it may strongly alter local ecosystems, particularly by poisoning native predators.
