California sea lion — size comparison — facts and sources
The California sea lion lives along the eastern Pacific, resting on islands and rocky shores. An eared seal, it has visible ear flaps. It can move on land using all four flippers.
In water it skilfully hunts fish, squid and octopuses. It forms dense, noisy colonies where males give characteristic barks. Females return from feeding trips to pups ashore, recognising them partly by voice.
