Cairo spiny mouse — size comparison — facts and sources

The Cairo spiny mouse is associated with dry, rocky areas of North Africa. It uses crevices in rocks and buildings and also shelters in burrows. It more often chooses gravelly and stony ground than loose sand.

It eats seeds, fruit, dry plants, insects and other available invertebrates. Near people it may use stored food. Its menu reflects seasonal and local food availability.

The young are born more developed than those of many other rodents: they have fur and open their eyes quickly. Females may help one another during birth and in caring for newborns.
