The brown spider monkey has very long limbs and tail, brown upperparts and a paler underside. Some individuals have a pale triangular forehead patch. It inhabits Colombian and Venezuelan tropical forests.
It feeds high in tree crowns. A flexible prehensile tail and hook-like hands let it hang and reach fruit beyond shorter limbs’ range. The adult community may split into smaller feeding parties. Extensive, connected forests are particularly important for this mobile fruit-eater.
