Broadnose sevengill shark — size comparison — facts and sources

The broadnose sevengill shark has seven gill slits on each side of its head, whereas most sharks have five. It has a broad, blunt snout and a single dorsal fin set far back. It inhabits temperate coastal and shelf waters, including the Southern Hemisphere and eastern Pacific.

A predator with a varied diet, it eats bony fish, rays and other sharks and also scavenges. Many individuals may gather at productive sites, making group encounters unsurprising.
